| The story begins with the murder of two teenagers in 1981. In Chapter Two a drug dealer saves the life of a young and pretty DEA agent. Chapter Three opens with the brutal murder of Kara Henderson, the state’s attorney and wife of Detective John Henderson in the courtyard of the Frederick County, Maryland, Courthouse. Six months later a mutilated body is discovered on South Mountain. Still later in the story a large sinkhole opens in Middletown where hundreds of unexplained skeletons are unearthed. In this, their first story to be told, these seven women of the Ladies of the Middletown Valley Social Club face love, lies, and murder. It describes a bonding friendship and a forbidden love that leads to murder, and it shows how friends, husbands, wives, and relationships are truly tested in this quiet, little central Maryland town where some people say, “Nothing exciting ever happens here.” |
