Networking Is a Big Part of Publishing
As great as it would be for anyone to just submit a manuscript to some editor at random in order to possibly be picked up for a book deal, that is not something that can happen in the real world. There’s always going to be that need to try and attain a much bigger goal. I really wish that I could have done this right the first time.
Originally, I struggled with many issues relating to publishing my book
Moreover, I sent my manuscript over to a few labels with the hopes of trying to highlight my work at large. However, I feel like even with all those fine letters that I wrote to show what I could do, I lost lots of time trying to win over others. It just bothered me so much and it hadn’t been all that easy for me to do anything with what I wanted to do at large.
That’s why I decided that I needed to do a little bit of networking in order to get my literature out there. I took a look at many things in the publishing world in order to actually get my name out there. Therefore, I figured that if I could network with others then it would probably be easier for me to get a publishing deal.
I went around to different conferences dedicated to the world of writing
Meanwhile, I talked with a bunch of representatives around different conferences as a means of getting my name out there. I talked with them about what I do for a living and gave myself a bit of a chance to interact with others.
Furthermore, I eventually got around to providing contact information with them; and even got some offers from a few to send in my manuscripts. I was trilled. This was because I knew that someone was actually going to look at my work for a change.
I went to other spots; including writers’ organizing to see what I could do. I joined a group devoted to the genre that I work in. Furthermore, I got to learn more about my skills in general; as well as what I can do in order to improve myself at large.
Eventually I got in touch with two more publishing editors
As a matter of fact, I sent my work to each editor; as I got in contact with them through a forum that the group I was in held. It really gave me a bit of support for what I wanted to do at large.
It got to the point where I got two different offers from some labels. They were actually interested in my work and gave me competing offers for getting my book published. It was a great thing that really gave me something appealing.
Nonetheless, I learned from this point that publishing is something that works best if you actually have more contacts to work with. You can’t just go and fire away at other people in the hopes of getting a deal. You have to make some concerted effort to actually get your work out there. I just wish that I knew about it sooner. At least I have a deal for a change.
